The Wind that Shakes the Barley

Ok maybe I am daft, but I didn't really get this movie. I tried. It was a winner from the Cannes. So there must be something I am missing but.... I just didn't like it.

Yes, I was struggling at the start to make sense of the ridiculously strong accents the Irishmen put on, but then once I was past the accents I kept wondering what was going on. I understood the plot (though it was one of the worst plots ever). I like historical drama these days, but they can't just stand on their own unless they are done with a careful eye. I believe what was lacking from this was an intimate story line. You know a good old Kate and Leo, Rose and Jack... I'm not asking for history to be rewritten I'm asking for a few driving characters here.

Cillian Murphey scares me, and did an OK job as the rebel, but other than some good Irish talkin', drinkin' and fightin' I just didn't buy into this film. Oh the shame... At least the popcorn only cost me a buck.

Beans on toast for me.

The acting and shots were very raw and human. And if it's true to life, then the absence of a plot was very realistic (real life doesn;t always have pronounced plots). But I agree, a bit of a waste.

Is this the movie about basically why the IRA was formed? Or the formation of it...?

"That's The Way It Is"

I can read your mind and I know your story
I see what you're going through
It's an uphill climb, and I'm feeling sorry
But I know it will come to you

Don't surrender 'cause you can win
In this thing called love

When you want it the most there's no easy way out
When you're ready to go and your heart's left in doubt
Don't give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that's the way it is

When you question me for a simple answer
I don't know what to say, no
But it's plain to see, if you stick together
You're gonna find a way, yeah

So don't surrender 'cause you can win
In this thing called love

When you want it the most there's no easy way out
When you're ready to go and your heart's left in doubt
Don't give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that's the way it is

When life is empty with no tomorrow
And loneliness starts to call
Baby, don't worry, forget your sorrow
'Cause love's gonna conquer it all, all

When you want it the most there's no easy way out
When you're ready to go and your heart's left in doubt
Don't give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that's the way it is

When you want it the most there's no easy way out
When you're ready to go and your heart's left in doubt
Don't give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that's the way it is

That's the way it is
That's the way it is, babe
Don't give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that's the way it is.
